Biographical Note
Dr. Emmanuel Mourlon-Druol is Pinto Post-Doctoral Fellow at Centre for Diplomacy and Strategy, the London School of Economics (LSE IDEAS).
Dr. Mourlon-Druol has a Ph.D. from the European University Institute (Florence), an MSc from the LSE and a BA in political studies from Sciences Po in Strasbourg.
His publications include "Filling the EEC leadership vacuum? The creation of the European Council in 1974" (Cold War History, 10:3, August 2010) and "La Stratégie Nord-américaine Après Le 11 Septembre. Un Réel Renouveau ?" (Paris: L'Harmattan, 2005).

Research Interests
He is currently finishing a monograph on European monetary cooperation in the mid- to late 1970s, including the creation of the European Monetary System (EMS). His new research project is a study of the origins, functioning, and role of institutionalised summitry (the European Council and the G7) from the mid-1970s until before the end of the Cold War. Going well beyond a mere diplomatic history of international relations, this study aims to show the interaction of various modes of governance (transnational, supranational and intergovernmental ones) as well as the interaction of different policy areas (economic and monetary affairs, military matters, etc), and the permanent challenges they face (influence of public opinion, issue of the democratic deficit), so as to uncover more profound trends which remain crucial to a thorough understanding of today's world.
